ABSTRACT

The body needs to coordinate effectively and efficiently in order to function as a whole, that is, all the systems of the body working together to maintain homeostasis and function. Through controlled coordination between stimuli and the body's responses and adapting to change, the body can avoid injury and danger. For survival, the human body has to adjust to its surrounding external and internal environments and stimuli. In order for these adjustments to be made, it is essential that the mechanism of control and coordination involve many systems of the human body working together synchronously. The nervous system permits the continuing performance in daily activities by facilitating the response to the body's environment. When these processes are compromised, the body becomes challenged and may progress into a state of illness, injury or disability.
