ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book describes clinical practice and can be used not only for reference but also as an invaluable revision tool. It focuses on constructivist pedagogical approaches and assimilation theory. The book presents interlinking ideas and information through the use of concept maps. It argues that the use of key words and connections will deepen and enhance those linkages from the concepts, drawing on the general and specific aspects of a topic, and will therefore promote active learning. The book focuses on scaffolding learning, therefore supporting, promoting and developing autonomous learning, questioning (informed) and critical thinking. It enables students/readers to use them as a resource whilst working within and outside of clinical practice.
