ABSTRACT

The cardiovascular system plays a pivotal role in sustaining life alongside the respiratory system. It has a responsibility to deliver oxygenated blood, nutrients and other substances to cells and to remove waste products such as carbon dioxide. The cardiovascular system also plays a key role in thermoregulation and blood clotting. The heart pumps deoxygenated blood to the tissues and cells. Through homeostasis it controls blood pressure. The vascular system delivers oxygen, nutrients and other substances to the cells and removes waste produced from cellular metabolism. The vascular system is made up of arteries, arterioles, capillaries, venules and veins.
