ABSTRACT

Embedded within the subfield of public criminology is a deep and abiding desire for academics to address social injustices through research and activism. In this chapter, we retrace over a decade of environmental justice activism in our own community that embraces this philosophy. We focus on how our collaboration with activists, public officials, and environmental crime victims shaped the outcome of our research and work in the community. We hope to provide a candid account of these examples as guidance for other academics seeking to get involved in their community in social justice-focused activism.
