ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book explores activities that are intended to enhance personal awareness and development. Suggestions were made as to how these could link with personal development (PD) group work. The book examines the history behind PD groups, the research into their effectiveness, and also students wrote about their own experiences. It utilizes personal experiences of both students and tutors to bring the subject alive and looks at topics associated with PD, e.g., attachment, mindfulness, and ethics. The book explains that conflicts and difficulties are often part of the PD group, and that great learning can come from the management of this. It focuses on personal therapy did not begin originally as a debate between two opposing sides to realize that having looked at published research, it would be useful to unpick the arguments for and against mandatory personal therapy.
