ABSTRACT

In this chapter Chesner explores classical trauma-informed psychodrama and experiential psychotherapy. Herman’s three phases of trauma work are described in relation to psychodrama psychotherapy as practised in a group setting. There is a case study focusing on the establishing of safety and the working through of early relational trauma. This is deconstructed using role analysis as applied in the London Centre for Psychodrama approach. The group as therapeutic agent, and the techniques of role reversal, mirror, and double are highlighted, including moments where non-verbal physical experience and expression are prioritised.
