ABSTRACT

Many people feel that lack of time to do jobs properly is a major cause of stress and, because of the perceived link between time and stress, time management. A stressful domestic situation coupled with pressure in the workplace could produce an intolerable level of stress for some people. A newly qualified teacher may be finding the behaviour of a particular class stressful whereas an experienced colleague may be undergoing the stress of marital separation, which is having an impact on their working life. There are many causes of stress. Clearly, such matters as death of a spouse, divorce, separation, death of a family member, illness in a family, financial difficulties and serious problems with neighbours are events outside the control of middle leaders. Stress can affect people emotionally and mentally resulting in changes in behaviour and physical health. Psychologists identify some individuals as being more stress-prone than others.
