ABSTRACT

This chapter presents an overview of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), outlining the brief history of translating these 17 global initiatives into feasible development plans to promote SDGs in Korea. In the course of discussion, the chapter reviews Korea’s experience in building ownership for sustainable development and green growth in the past decades and then assesses how to integrate the three dimensions – social, economic, and environmental – of sustainable development as a guiding framework for national policies. In this sense, it describes the steps Korea has already taken for the implementation of the agenda, but it also delivers further efforts and action relevant for Korea to meet these goals by 2030 based on its capacities and circumstances.
