ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author shows that the role of each group member needed to be clearly defined so one person could have a vision for the animation while the others could assist in making it a reality. The flipbook style animation of Godzilla was drawn with only two frames in the drawing mode. Everything changed with the introduction of iPads and creation apps. The author looks at writing district and local grants as an opportunity to advocate for the importance of art education and expand people’s understanding of how technology will help all students create art, investigate concepts, and demonstrate learning. She modifies the project by eliminating the stationary painting of a ghost in the foreground so students could add it in afterwards with the magic of animation. After reading the story Your Alien by Tammi Sauer as inspiration, students created a flipbook style animated alien using only white digital ink on a black background.
