ABSTRACT

Adults who are anticipating the death of a loved one and those who are providing end-of-life care for a loved one can benefit from this mindful photography reflective practice. Practicing mindful photography and reflecting on self-made images is a process that allows caregivers to create the space that is needed to process and integrate thoughts and feelings, revealing a much deeper sense of awareness, acceptance and meaning. The practice of mindful photography involves letting go of expectations, becoming attentive to moment-to-moment awareness and accepting that which is present. In the process of mindful photography, psychological components surface as one becomes receptive to feelings and sensations, thus allowing the eyes to open more fully to the present moment. Clients then write a reflective journal entry about the experience of mindful photography, the moment they made the image and what struck them in that moment.
