ABSTRACT

Bowen theory offers a way out of the downward spiral that is fueled by the chronic anxiety in the individual as well as the group by focusing on regulating self rather than blaming the others. Bowen theory may provide areas for further research in the new and growing field of the social regulation of genetic expression. Parallel subjects of interest in Bowen theory and the genomic stress research may make it possible for each to contribute to the other in future research. Bowen theory’s openness to new developments in the life sciences toward a science of human behavior allows for rich exchange with the new field of human social genomics. Scientists studying genetic expression have discovered that the human genes governing immune response are highly sensitive to the social environment, with social stress contributing to illness, including chronic illnesses associated with increased inflammation.
