ABSTRACT
Este capítulo se centra en el acto de habla de los cumplidos en español, distinguiendo entre dos grandes tipos de cumplidos: los explícitos y los implícitos. Asimismo, ofrece una panorámica sobre las realizaciones lingüísticas más habituales de este acto de habla expresivo, así como las distintas funciones que puede desempeñar, tanto cuando actúa como acto de habla principal como cuando, a modo de “acto satélite”, acompaña a otro acto de habla (por ejemplo, a las disculpas). Ambos tipos de cumplidos (tanto explícitos, o formulaicos, como implícitos) están ilustrados con ejemplos del habla real tomados del español peninsular, ofreciéndose también ejercicios y sugerencias para posibles investigaciones.
Abstract in English
This chapter focuses on the speech act of complimenting in Spanish, establishing a distinction between two main types of compliments: explicit and implicit. Likewise, the reader is provided with an overview of the most common linguistic realizations of this speech act. Both types of compliments (explicit or formulaic, and implicit) are illustrated with real-life examples from Peninsular Spanish. In addition to taking into account its linguistic patterns, the chapter also deals with the different functions that compliments may serve, both as a head act and as a ‘satellite’ of other speech acts such as apologies. Tasks and suggestions for research are also offered.
