ABSTRACT

The technological transformations which have affected production volume and structure did not fail to influence the evolution of employment and distribution, as well as the qualifications structure. The overall employment growth has been a major economical and social fact in independent Algeria, and the fact is undeniable even though the quality of the employment statistics may sometimes be questioned. Employment can be considered as being not very qualified because of the nature of these branches and also because industry, being rare, was able to polarize the available qualified personnel to its advantage. On the whole, the evolution of the overall employment situation can be considered as a sign of transformation in the Algerian economic, social and technological world. Apart from the intersectorial disparities mentioned, evolution of the salary range has resulted in a narrowing of the gap between executive and trained workers' salaries and those of untrained workers.
