ABSTRACT

The agricultural intensification, defined by the objective of increasing yields per hectare and husbandry productivity, is imperative for Algeria because of its population growth, of the changes in food consumption patterns and in the fragility of the agrarian base. Algerian authorities soon became aware of the intensification need, as shown in the fundamental documents of the official doctrine on economics. The 1967 document concerning the decennial prospects of the economical development indicate that agriculture must play a central role in development. Agricultural intensification has normally brought the authorities to pay more and more attention to the training of executives, technicians and qualified workers for agriculture. There are many different explanations which all tend to explain the reasons why the necessary technical changes have not been carried out to allow the indispensable agricultural intensification to take place. The underlying cause of the agricultural intensification difficulties is the lack of mobilization of land workers for their activities.
