ABSTRACT

This chapter describes and illustrates with an extended example how the principles of Single-Session Therapy (SST) can be applied in a parallel process to the work of making a difference in one-session-at-a-time supervision. By negotiating what is important in the here-and-now in each supervision session, the supervisor can be keeping an ear and an eye on repeating themes/issues over time. The Single-Session Supervision (SSS) framework developed directly from the SST framework. The chapter provides an example of SSS. Vivian, the supervisor, had not met Melina, the supervisee, before. In development section of the conversation, the supervisor invites her supervisee to consider what may be evoking strong feelings for her, such that she had become angry with her client to the point where she worried that he may not return to counselling. In this final part of the supervision conversation, the supervisor may take some time to "think aloud" and reflect in front of her supervisee.
