ABSTRACT

To construct a teaching model for practical instruction in subjective drawing for art education majors, we propose an experimental method of drawing course as a demonstrative teaching model, focusing on developing creativity. Students were asked to create at least one piece of subjective drawing every day. Students then discussed their creative process and intention with their instructor, who asked questions and gave the students advice for next steps. In this study of the class, student’s drawings and the instructor/student conversations were analyzed and ‘maps’ of each student’s creative transition over time were produced. We propose that the chronological visualization provided by the data maps is an effective means for the teacher to evaluate the students’ processes to provoke their own creativity. As a result of the collected evidence, we propose a teaching model for the art education majors, with the goal of cultivating their creativity.
