ABSTRACT
This section looks at the main factors limiting smallholder wheat cultivation, which have been categorised into two groups: biophysical and socio-economic. Ways in which research is addressing these issues/challenges in smallholder wheat production systems are also discussed. We outline how research findings can support smallholder farmers to create wheat production systems that optimise yield, yield stability, grain quality and longterm sustainability.
