ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an introduction to Part 2 and 3 of this book. Memory, remembrance and remembering the past: one of the most obvious themes that comes to mind while reading over the North America and South-Eastern European chapters. The psychological, social and artistic consequences of artists and people in general living in wars and facing its atrocities are in multiple ways described in these chapters. The part explores a range of concepts including: Hana Worthen’s social activism in musicals; Julia Gray, Jenny Setchell and Helen Donnelly’s practice around clowning and health; Hannah Fox’s conductor’s experience in Playback Theatre; Yasmine Kandil’s pedagogical approach to community-based theatre; Asif Majid and Elena Valesco’s virtual dialogue on social justice issues; and Warwick Dobson and Lauren Jerke’s research on theatre with gatekeepers.
