ABSTRACT

This chapter entitles ‘The right artistic solution is just the beginning’ regarding a three-year project Hodja from Denmark – Theatre for Asylum Children by Lene Thiesen analyzes the complexity of migration theatre projects and underlines the need for scholars and practitioners to develop strategies to meet these challenges in a sustainable way. It describes methods to develop dramaturgical strategies through applied performance. Rikke Gürgens Gjærum presents a deep scientific analysis on which various ways Nordic applied performances deal with issues of cultural and social change in northern Europe. The fairy tale written and reflected by Maria Kwiatek also focuses on nowadays challenges for young people and the Youth in Western Europe. The tale was written in the context of a theatre project in a juvenile education centre in Warsaw. In all of the case studies related to applied performance in Western Europe, there is the illumination of critical spheres for reflection between artistic, political and aesthetic levels.
