ABSTRACT

In participatory refugee theatre, refugees are actively involved in creating and performing a theatre play. In this chapter, the authors aim to debate on the dynamics of participation in participatory refugee theatre by shedding light on the creative process of the participatory theatre project Tijdelijk. They aim to listen to the voices of its director and the nine participants by means of several formal research interviews and informal conversations. A dialogical art practice has been articulated in theoretical reflections on art practices and dramaturgy on different levels, including dialogues both outside and inside the creation process. The theatre project Temporary consisted of eleven weekly collective theatre workshops of four hours in the community centre in Brussels. In this chapter, the authors elaborated on the different dialogical practices at play in the participatory theatre project Temporary. The resemblance with the role of a dramaturge in artistic practices is striking.
