ABSTRACT

Given the negative outcomes associated with failure to forgive oneself and the positive outcomes associated with self-forgiveness, helping professionals might consider self-forgiveness as a possible treatment goal. In this chapter, we review the currently available literature on self-forgiveness promotion, with an emphasis on empirically tested intervention packages. We also offer considerations for practitioners to use when selecting a given intervention to implement. Finally, we challenge clinical investigators to improve the knowledge base surrounding self-forgiveness promotion.
