ABSTRACT

Peter Miller is a scenic artist in New York City whose career has encompassed film, television, Broadway, and opera. Growing up in Johnson, Vermont, Miller began a lifelong interest in Medieval and Renaissance history through The Chronicles of Narnia books by C. S. Lewis. Miller spent the few years in Vermont apprenticing at the Champlain Shakespeare Festival and taking classes at Johnson Stage College instead of his high school. Upon graduation Miller wanted to continue in scenic art rather than makeup and prosthetics. Miller worked for several seasons as the paint charge at Juilliard before joining United Scenic Artists 829 in the category of scenic art. Miller does find it hard to photograph much of his film and television work due to nondisclosure agreements that scenic artists sign at the beginning of such projects. Miller expects to be busy in the years to come, and finds there is always more to be learned about one’s craft.
