ABSTRACT
This chapter explores the need for editing to focus on how people interact with and use information, rather than on the high- and low-level textual editing typically taught. It discusses the results of a quantitative analysis of editing comments made by graduate student editors. The results show they make few global-level comments and few comments that address issues of how people will be using the information.
