ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the results of a small, virtual focus group performed with two LinkedIn Groups that are focused on technical communication. In all, 27 technical editors responded with 44 forum threads that explored the topic of technical editing and technology. Through subsequent questions from me and other participants, answers were expanded upon and then recorded and coded. The four resulting categories provided a wealth of information about the use of technology within the practice of technical editing. While there was no single technology shared among the group, the respondents emphasized the importance of features like version control, validation, and mechanisms that support collaboration. These features are highlighted as important considerations when adopting any technology for technical editing.
