ABSTRACT

The author provides a first-person account of her experiences as a Latina psychologist who simultaneously respects and does not always feel like a welcome member of humanistic psychology. The reader is taken on a journey through the author’s awakening to various diversity issues relevant to humanistic psychology and her personal decisions about how to proceed. Reynaga-Abiko demonstrates some of the challenges historically faced by humanistic psychologists from different cultural backgrounds. The chapter ends with a challenge to continue diversifying humanistic psychology so that it may break away from its European framework.
