ABSTRACT

This chapter reviews the great regional variations in the European sex work and prostitution landscape and identifies three main clusters into which third sector organizations (TSOs) working in this area can be grouped, based on their different understandings of and approaches to commercial sex and those involved in it: sex worker rights, prostitution as gendered violence, and harm reduction. It then explores the ethos, claims, and demands informing organizations within these three clusters, analyzing their origin, evolution, contemporary configurations, and the typologies of services provided. A final section examines the various ways in which these organizations receive funding and how access to financial resources influences their activities and visibility.
