ABSTRACT
China has already made a fundamental contribution to the present globalisation process and has also highly benefited from it. Now China feels that by being the second World Economy it has a moral obligation to actively enhance a new conceptual model of the world economic growth that is more integrated and globally controlled, In order to enhance this new global economic model, China has launched a very ambitious initiative under the name of One Belt One Road and 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road.
Investment and trade cooperation is a major task in implementing this initiative and the removal of investment and trade barriers with the opening up of free areas are targets to unleash the potential expanded cooperation between China and the EU. The flagships of the EU-China 2020 Strategic Agenda presently under negotiation are the Investment Plan in the EU and the One Belt One Road (OBOR) initiative. The Chinese government wants both to negotiate together and be win-win. The research questions developed in this chapter are: What are the economic cooperation objectives of the OBOR initiative and what are the perspectives of the economic cooperation between China and the EU under the OBOR initiative?
