ABSTRACT

The United Kingdom’s (UK) first Counter Terrorism Strategy was launched in 2003, with an associated considerable expansion of the resources made available to deal with the threat of terrorist related incidents. However, the UK has extensive experience in counter-terrorism operations across both the police and intelligence services stretching back over 100 years. This chapter reflects upon such extensive history and due to recent acts of terrorism both in the UK and overseas, how the UK’s contemporary approach to counter-terrorism has been structured.
