ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses insights gained from analysing the interviews with technology and facilities leaders. When teaching and learning systems are disturbed with new ideas and activity, one of the first noticeable aspects is the introduction of new language. In many cases, the more popular and influential an idea appears to be, the more the language surrounding it is co-opted by different advocacy groups in the institution to support a variety of causes. The technology and facilities leaders felt that without developing a shared language and common concepts for learning space within their institutions, time, resources and goodwill can be wasted and the education strategy impeded. A shared vocabulary and concepts for learning space have become increasingly important because of the strategic benefits provided through integrating the physical and virtual in university teaching and learning models. Some of the concepts of learning space held by the professional leaders were closer to the ideas expressed by the educational leaders.
