ABSTRACT

The links between poverty and incarceration have been substantiated by research. Here, one individual who is a justice-affected person describes his incarceration as well as the other forms of criminal supervision he experienced, including parole and probation that occurred simultaneously. This chapter explores the mental and physical impacts of incarceration. In particular, being jailed far from home without any resources, family, or networks. Beyond this, the chapter discusses the various accomplishments, goals, and personal experiences tied to incarceration that has (mis)shaped the author’s life.
