ABSTRACT

The functioning of the higher education institutions depends on the regular teaching–learning and research activities carried out in the universities, which ultimately contribute the university as the knowledge center. However, Nepali higher education institutions are struggling to establish themselves as knowledge center. This chapter assesses the situation of higher education institutions in Nepal as the knowledge center for promoting knowledge generation, management, and dissemination. Employing mixed method research design in the five universities of Nepal, we argue that higher education institution experts in Nepal perceive that universities should generate knowledge, manage the knowledge, and disseminate knowledge in the state but the practice of such activities are less institutionalized. The findings of this study show that universities in Nepal are not globally competitive to establish themselves as knowledge centers because of information communication technology (ICT), updated teaching–learning activities, developing the research capacity of the university, and leadership and quality provision.
