ABSTRACT

Proposing a passion–practice–opportunity framework, this chapter explores pathways for Nepalese diaspora, especially the academics and professionals, for contributing to capacity-building in higher education in Nepal. It uses an entrepreneurial perspective to inform policymakers that scope and efficacy of diaspora contributions depend on a variety of factors including the appropriate policies in the home country, resources available to diaspora in the host countries, and motivation and commitment of diaspora participants to contribute to the home country. By examining cases of viable and successful diaspora contributions towards development of science and technology and reform of education in countries like India and China, we derive lessons for Nepalese diaspora and home country policymakers for reflections and actions.
