ABSTRACT

The enormity and complexity of current global challenges, plus the scale and scope of the environmental, economic and social transformation envisioned by the 2030 Agenda, make it clear that no single sector – government, business or civil society – can achieve this transformation alone. There is a need for diverse stakeholders from multiple sectors to mobilize knowledge, expertise and financial resources to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This chapter presents the tremendous opportunity multi-stakeholder partnership holds in accelerating the attainment of the SDGs in Nigeria. Two illustrative cases, the Food and Beverage Recycling Alliance (FBRA) and the Committee Encouraging Corporate Philanthropy (CECP)-Nigeria, are discussed as models of multi-stakeholder partnership driving the attainment of the SDGs. Careful study of these organizations reveals the opportunities and obstacles inherent in partnerships for driving sustainable development.
