ABSTRACT

This chapter explains the use longitudinal data at the household level set to explore the extent to which migration from agricultural households is associated with changes in the amount of land used in cultivation and household labour employed in agriculture. As migration becomes more common the costs of migration are decreased and most households can finance migration of one or more members. The chapter focuses on agricultural households, which are defined as those that used land for agricultural purposes in 2000. The data used in the analysis are drawn from the household questionnaire and the household is used as the unit of analysis.
