ABSTRACT
This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book explores how civil society has moved into institutionalised global governance. It explores that the role being played by civil society actors in the international institutions that most affect the presence of economic, ecological, and social sustainability in today's world. The book analyses how civil society and global governors have, could, and should come together in new ways to improve the links, the balance, and the synergies among economic, environmental, and social values. It explores the risk contest over food safety in international organisations for trade and environment. The book looks directly at the business sector in a regional and global context. It examines the area of North American Free Trade Agreement that most directly and innovatively gave multinational corporations a major place in international governance.
