ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the Farmers' Federation-Danish Agriculture. It has a pivotal position within the farming sector as it organizes 90 percent of farmers. However, it cannot be analyzed in isolation from the broader agricultural interest groups system. Agriculture is perhaps one of the best organized industries in Denmark. The main coordination body is the Agricultural Council, of which Danish Agriculture is a leading member. The other members of the Council are farmers' cooperatives and some specialized branches and commodity groups. As a highly export-orientated industry the Danish farm sector is affected by globalization. This has put some pressure on farm interest groups and was one of the reasons why the two major groups merged and formed the federation, Danish Agriculture. Danish Agriculture is the association representing Danish farmers' interests at the national level. The association is for all farmers, including part-time farmers, though they are definitely not its core constituency.
