ABSTRACT

This chapter reports the experience out of which the idea of networked learning has taken shape, and sets out its guiding principles. It is based on authors’ experience over the last five years developing programmes for the Capgemini University, and the many other organizations they have connected with and consulted to in the process. Capgemini is one of the world's largest providers of consulting, technology and outsourcing services formed from the merger of Cap Gemini, Gemini Consulting and Ernst & Young consulting in May 2000. Global strategic alliances with the top technology companies in world help Capgemini to provide clients with solutions tailored to their unique business needs. In harnessing powers of collaborative development, it is important to note that both the motivation of developers and the context in which they work must converge for a result. Networked learning methods make a fundamental shift away from traditional learning paradigms built on the 'parent–child' principles of 'Me, teacher; you, student'.
