ABSTRACT

This chapter examines Cyprus's efforts to achieve the objectives in the area of agriculture, by focusing mainly at the legislative side of the task, which in most cases is closely linked to the decisions associated with the administrative and technical side of the task. The objectives are: to adopt all the necessary national legislative measures required for full harmonization with the acquis communautaire, and to set up the necessary administrative and technical infrastructure for implementing the transposed national legislation as well as the acquis communautaire. A brief overview of the development of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) on an European Union (EU) level was also deemed necessary in order to give a more complete picture of what this policy is about and its aims. The chapter includes some of the features of Cyprus's harmonisation relating to legal and administrative measures as well as the results of Cyprus's negotiations during the accession negotiations.
