ABSTRACT

In order to reach their full potential and achieve their sports goals, athletes need to be maximally prepared in all areas that can potentially influence their sport performance. This is the reason why psychological preparation should be an integral part of a judoka’s sport development and competition preparation. This chapter will introduce some general information about psychological preparation in judo and offer some guidelines for implementing such a programme. Since psychological skills can be successfully trained and their implementation can have a significant positive effect on sport performance, it has been suggested that a sport psychologist should be a regular member of a coaching team.
