ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an overview of how to screen for, assess, and intervene when clients are facing financial distress, and includes the types of interventions that are typically used within financial social work. Intervention-wise, these include financial coaching, financial education, financial counseling, and financial therapy. In addition, this chapter describes how these various interventions tie into broader social work interventions, theories, and models of practice. The interface among these theories and interventions within social work and how they are informed by financial social work (FSW) and financial capability and asset building (FCAB) foci is explored.
