ABSTRACT

In this chapter our friend and colleague, Dr Simon Drew, explores why the opportunity to do fieldwork in the United Kingdom and overseas is such a big draw for many new Physical Geography students. He explores the importance of laboratory work in Physical Geography degree programmes. Most new students are unlikely to have been into a laboratory to learn about Geography – but, at university, lab work can be a very important way to learn about Physical geography. Finally, Simon explores the joys and challenge of learning how to use new technology and equipment, both in the field and in the lab.
