ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces curriculum theory and presents keyword response writing as a method for understanding the fundamentals of curriculum. It introduces the field of curriculum studies, the traditions of curriculum, and the evolution of curriculum theorizing. The chapter delineates and defines 19 key concepts, or key constructs, in contemporary curriculum theory, and situates them within the field. Anchor texts, accessible introductions to concepts written by experts, are defined and presented as a source for initiating complicated conversations around key concepts that can be explored through the pedagogical tool of keyword response writing. Approaches to keyword response writing as a method for teaching and learning curriculum theory are introduced. Readers will gain an understanding of curriculum theory, key curriculum concepts, and how to use keyword response writing as curriculum inquiry and pedagogy.
