ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces and defines becoming as a key concept in curriculum. The concept is tackled as a linking, bridging, integrating force in motion rather than as step-by-step, ordered process, using the metaphor of lines of flight as imagined by Deleuze and Guattari. The notion of becoming-different is applied to curriculum as a dynamic entity, a becoming-curriculum as living experience and subject matter, and interrelationships between people and the environment and its materiality. This introduction to the concept of becoming in curriculum theory is accompanied by personal reflections on the key concept from two educators who further explore its relevance in human lives. The chapter concludes with some suggested discussion questions for use in curriculum studies courses and by curriculum theory students.
