ABSTRACT

Foster Care and Juvenile Justice Systems: Crossover and Integration of Services: The overlap among youth between the foster care and juvenile justice systems is wellknown, but the sequence of system contact, the reasons for this overlap, and the state of collaboration between the two systems over time is less well documented. This chapter will review what is known about the path youth take from foster care to juvenile justice involvement, as well as the path from juvenile justice to foster care, and the ongoing relationship between the two. Then, emerging evidence-based and evidence-informed practices to prevent delinquent behaviors, and interventions to improve outcomes after crossover has occurred are reviewed. Policy solutions and means of evaluation, including the increasing use of big data, will also be discussed.
