ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book examine how these relatively good working conditions are created and maintained. It also examines how work organization is formed, how education and training give access to the labour market and keep employees in employment, how work is managed in the public sector, and how precarious work unfolds in the Nordics. The book explores the Nordic approach to working life. It investigates how the Nordic approach influences working life and how experiences in working life help to maintain the Nordic approach. The book presents what we consider the core of the Nordic legacy, and it is argued that this core has made it possible to create a working life which, in most parameters, is better than in comparable countries. It also explores how international production concepts are integrated into Nordic working life.
