ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book demonstrates that the commitment to intersectionality as a core concept for both the curriculum as well as the pedagogical practices in the classroom. Peace and Justice Studies has sometimes been caricatured as a space of soft scholarship full of students holding hands and talking about their feelings. Parents and students squint at the sign “Peace and Justice Studies” amid the flurry of other departments and the overwhelming information about everything from financial aid to dorms. While the moments of convergence are striking, it is the differences between the pieces that demonstrate the growth of the field. It is relatively easy for a single program at a particular university to create a unified vision of what peace or justice might mean in their context and to create learning outcomes, courses and extracurricular activities that embody that vision.
