ABSTRACT

Purpose must be authentic to an organization’s people, and the Purpose Champion needs to hear the language, sentiments, and themes bubbling up and be insistent that the organization’s purpose represents these views. For purpose to be successful it needs to be a people-led movement. The biggest part of the Purpose Champion’s role is to create this movement at scale within the organization. The impetus for starting down the purpose path takes many forms, but it always centers on getting the organization headed in the same, clear direction. In any company, there will always be people who believe wholeheartedly in the power of purpose, people who will never be ardent believers and everything in between. Once purpose is identified, making a resonant manifesto or a short statement of purpose shared by all people in the business is hugely important to make sure everyone understands and connects with the purpose.
