ABSTRACT

San Diego State University (SDSU) is home to the oldest women’s studies department, founded in 1970. Despite the long history of feminist scholarship and activism on campus, the university only designated funding and space for a “Women’s Resource Center” in 2015. This chapter explores the political opportunities and challenges of opening a women’s center in 2015 by presenting an overview of campus events that served as a catalyst to institutionally fund and support a women’s center. The chapter concludes with a discussion of thoughtful frameworks that have been established via the robust collaboration with the SDSU Department of Women’s Studies.
