ABSTRACT
In this selection Schön challenges the role of professionalism society. He examines how people have become increasingly less confident in their abilities to handle situations in practice and more dependent on professionals. Schön asks the hard questions that all professionals, including planners, must be “reflective” about —the merits of being a professional, the purpose a professional serves, and whether professional knowledge can ever be sufficient to meet the increasing demands of professional practice.
