ABSTRACT
Health and illness are variable and people across different cultures and history perceive, interpret, and seek help in different ways. The chapter describes sociological perspectives in health research traditions, focusing on social and cultural factors that can explain diseases, health seeking behavior, and health care services. The development towards health care pluralism and its policy implications in Nepal are illustrated with examples from international academic literature.
